Alison (she/her) is an Edinburgh-based Art Psychotherapist with experience supporting adults, young people, and children. Since beginning her career in 2019, she has worked across Scotland for a range of charities as well as her own private practice. Her clinical experience includes working with young people and families involved in adoption and fostering, adults with learning disabilities, individuals experiencing isolation, and those who have experienced trauma.
Alison has particular experience supporting people with additional support needs and believes that art therapy offers an accessible way to express and explore experiences when words alone can feel difficult to find. She is passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ communities and has facilitated several art therapy groups in Edinburgh, creating spaces where individuals can explore their identities, build connections, and share experiences with others. Alison takes a client-led approach, tailoring sessions to the needs of each individual and recognising that every person's therapeutic journey is unique. She sees art therapy as a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where individuals can explore present-day challenges, process past experiences, deepen their self-understanding, and work towards meaningful goals for the future.
Committed to reflective practice, Alison values ongoing learning and actively incorporates feedback into her work. She also believes that strong community connections play an important role in wellbeing and is dedicated to building and maintaining relationships with local charities and organisations. This helps ensure that clients can access wider networks of support when appropriate. Alison views art therapy as one part of a wider picture of care. Alongside other forms of support, it can help individuals understand and express their emotions, process life experiences, identify barriers to wellbeing, and develop greater confidence and resilience.
