James (he/they) is a multilingual Music Therapist with 5 years of experience already under their belt in client-centred hypnotherapy (CCHT).

Originally from South Africa, they have a background in folk music and a love for traditional musics from around the world, especially involving singing.

Having recently qualified in psychodynamic music therapy from QMU, James is trained to work with clients to find what approach lands best with them. They are particularly drawn to LGBTQIA+/queer, disability, bereavement and self-empowerment themes.

To James, music is a valuable resource that, when harnessed, can help us to understand ourselves and our relationships with others. Their MSc dissertation was on the use of music as a form of journaling, and they have used music throughout their life to have conversations with the parts of their self that words don’t do justice to express. Their passion is to help others find their own way to use music to do similar things.

At CATS, James is keen to work with LGBTQIA+/queer adults and young people but is open to working with a wide variety of people. They seek to provide a supportive environment to foster self-expression, and deeper understanding of oneself and others.
